Catch Return 2024
With immediate effect, there is no longer any access to the Club's water at The Holmes via the gate beside the Blackwell Bridge Tollhouse. The only access to this stretch of river is from the car park at Cleasby Lake.
The gate at Boat House Lane now has a club combination lock.
This is strictly for PEDESTRIAN ACCESS ONLY NO VEHICLES ALLOWED.
With cooperation and help from the Club Naturally Native Project at the Tees Valley Wildlife Trust will be undertaking a plan to eradicate the American Mink from Cleasby Lake and our stretch of the Tees.
If you come across any of their rafts etc., please don’t disturb them.
Good news on both accounts.

Analysis of Cleasby Lake performance over past four years.
This graph, produced from Members' Catch Returns, reveals :-
A gradual increase in angler visits.
A dramatic increase in coarse fish catches, mostly roach, perch and tench.
Poor trout catches in 2022 season, especially during the hot summer weather.

Catch returns for 2020
Annual Catch Return
By now every Member of the Club should have received an end of 2020 season Catch Return postcard.
It is mandatory to complete and return this form, even if you haven't fished this year.
The Catch Return is important for several reasons:-
- It helps the Club's Committee decide where, when and what to restock.
- It shows where Members of the Club fish. Detailed maps showing the Club's waters are on the web-site.
- It provides an essential long-term record of the Club's fishing, to support a claim for compensation, in the event of a pollution.
If you haven't returned your form yet, please do so now!
Coarse fishing season on River Tees re-opens on 16th June.
With very little angling having taken place on the Club’s waters on the River Tees in the past three months, this year’s re-opening of the coarse fishing season on Tuesday 16th June promises to be better than ever!
The Club owns and leases some of the best water on the river, between High Coniscliffe and Skerne Mouth (Hurworth Place). Full details, including descriptions and maps, are shown on the Club’s website. http://darlingtonanglersclub.org.uk/club-waters/
Heroic efforts have been made by Members of the Club, including Jeff Herbert and John Brown, to open-up no fewer than 24 fishing pegs on the Durham Bank of the river between Blackwell Bridge and Skerne Mouth and 12 pegs on the Yorkshire side of the river at Stapleton.
Members are encouraged to seek out these newly cleared parts of the river and to carry out further bank clearance themselves.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Despite spraying and up-rooting, there are still some areas of the riverbank that are badly affected by Giant Hogweed. Anglers are advised to avoid touching these dangerous plants, which should only be tackled by those with appropriate training and proper PPE.
There is plenty of room on the Club’s waters for Members to observe the continuing need for Social Distancing!
The trout fishing season on the River Tees opens on 22nd March, but if coarse fish are your target, our lovely lake at Cleasby is the place to go!
A further £1,500 worth of fish were stocked there on 21st March 2020, comprising 545 prime roach, rudd and tench. Also 100 lbs of carp (up to 6lbs each) were added to the existing wild stock of commons and mirrors already in the lake.
Cleasby Lake is a 100% catch and release, mixed stock fishery, with rainbow and brown trout, a wide range of coarse fish, including a few big pike!
A list of rules for fishing at the lake are displayed on this web-site.

Generous donations to Club Funds
At the well-attended 127th Annual General Meeting of the Club on 28th February 2020, it was revealed that half the £1,200 cost of stocking Cleasby Lake with 250 lbs of coarse fish last December was met by donations of £300 each by two community-spirited Members of the Club.
The Committee and the whole of the Club is extremely grateful for the generosity shown by those two Members (who wish to remain anonymous).
Any other Members who wish to help in a similar way are cordially invited to do so!
